Well...that was windy
Over the last week we had a few days that were full on storms. This time of year we often get one or two but this has been the week of them. And there are more impending. It is kinda hard to show what a storm is like. Picture a white wall and that is the view out the window. But the weather report kinda says it all. On the left is what it was most of the evening, and then the right shows the max of the day at the time.
We are right next to (a 30 minute hike) to Scott Base, run by Antarctic New Zealand and they get a little more wind than we do. They had a maxium of just over 100 mph (or 162 kph) wind speed while we were getting around 92 mph of wind as our maximum over those days.
Snow being carried by that much wind finds its way EVERYWHERE. For example here is the inside of our vehicle. Now it may look like we left the door open but no - this is going through the seal between the door and the frame into the inside. Jacob took on the challenge of cleaning it out so we could get back to work.
Ok - so i will show some video. But this wind looks kinda windy but it was shaking the building. It makes me feel good about being in a place with such strong buildings! For reference, we were experiencing Hurricane Catagory 1 winds and Scott base was Catagory 2 winds.
The biggest challenge (if the power stays on) is moving between buildings and if it a "Condition 1" storm, it means we cannot move between buildings. It was 'Con 1' numerous times and even at Con 2, I had a new experience of my glasses almost being blown off my face while walking around.
