Brineicles out of nowhere

Brineicles are formed by the ocean freezing, ice is freshwater and so super salty (and now very cold) brine sinks and freezes more water to it. If you haven't seen the Brinicles of Death video from the BBC, totally worth a google.

They are also something that are ephemeral. They are not there and then show up, then are broken by currents (or maybe seals... hopefully not divers) like short lived stalagtites.

This last dive they all of a sudden were all over the Jetty dive site and big ones! Some of them were more than 10 ft long. In addition, as the cracks have grown there have been more and more juvinile fish hanging out in the cracks (as you can see the school of little dots of fish in the first image if you squint or to the right of the iimagea above) as well as some even perching on the brineicles as a resting space.

The dive also had a few charismatic jelly fish, like this one adding to the color of the otherwise dark and blue landscape, now increasingly filled with spires from sky (or ice.)
